Business Impact Analysis (BIA)
Per business process: how long can it be down? What’s the financial / reputational / regulatory impact? Who depends on it?
BCP components
- Crisis management team — named individuals, alternates, comms plan
- Critical process inventory — what must continue under any scenario
- DR plans — IT-system level (covered Module 14)
- Vendor BCP — your critical processes depend on vendors; verify their BCP
- Communications — pre-drafted templates for customers, regulators, employees
- Alternate work arrangements — work-from-home capacity; alternate sites
Indian regulatory expectations
- RBI — annual BCP testing for banks; quarterly for systemically important
- SEBI — BCP per CSCRF
- IRDAI — BCP testing twice annually for insurers
- DPDP §8(5) — reasonable safeguards; BCP is part of this
Drill cadence
- Tabletop quarterly — half-day, scenario-based discussion
- Functional test annually — actually invoke alternative procedures
- Full BCP exercise every 2-3 years — full failover
