When Akamai announced its LayerX acquisition, the company joined a growing list of vendors adding secure enterprise browsers to their product portfolios.
RingSafe analysis
The secure-enterprise-browser category (Island, Talon now inside Palo Alto, LayerX inside Akamai, Surf) matters more in India than headlines suggest, because BYOD and contractor laptops still dominate IT-services and BPM operations. Enterprise browsers give CISOs a single enforcement chokepoint for GenAI prompt DLP, paste-blocking into ChatGPT/Claude/Gemini, session recording for SaaS-heavy stacks, and conditional-access without rolling EDR onto unmanaged endpoints. For DPDP Section 8 readiness, browser-layer DLP is a credible “reasonable security safeguard” control to point at during a Data Protection Board inquiry. MITRE ATT&CK adjacency: T1556 (Modify Authentication Process via browser extensions) and T1539 (Steal Web Session Cookie). Action: pick the top five risky SaaS apps in your tenant (M365, Salesforce, your code-hosting, your CRM, your finance system) and pilot one secure-browser product against them this quarter.
